Sara Akers
Executive Director and Founder

I am delighted that you are taking a look at North Texas Performing Arts and our theatres in Dallas, Fairview, Frisco, and Plano. For many years these theatres have been a place where young people have found a home and a purpose.

I recently heard a parent tell a story about her daughter that highlights what we’re about. This young girl was in 3rd grade and it was her first production at NTPA. Although not cast with a lead part, she did receive a medium-sized role. During the last show, the entire cast was crying and hugging. They did not want this show to end. They had bonded so much. That night driving home, the young girl looked at her mother tears still streaming down her face and said, “Mom, I think I know what I want to do with the rest of my life.” It brings me such joy knowing that this young girl is fulfilling her dreams. NTPA was the first place that showed her that she has the ability and potential to follow her dreams of being a Broadway actress!

We are confident that you will come to agree that we have North Texas’ best teachers and directors here. Together, we have many decades of theatre experience on and off-Broadway. We love children, love our craft and bring major production experience to every classroom.

We invite you to come to see a show and experience for yourself what we’re all about. I’m sure you’ll like what you see.

There’s room for you at North Texas Performing Arts!

Sara’s Bio

Unbeknownst to my parents, I entered my first talent show in the first grade with a dance routine to “Let’s twist and shout!” I started choreographing dance numbers for elementary class productions in the fourth grade at Walnut Hill Elementary. My teachers used to say as soon as I got my class work done I was free to go to Mrs. McKnight’s music class where she allowed me to choreograph, direct and perform. I continued to volunteer at Walnut Hill Elementary throughout my high school years. It was through Mrs. McKnight, Toni Beck, and watching a live performance at Dallas Theatre Center that I decided what I was going to do – have a theatre – a place to create.
