The Academy is our training program for students age 10-18, and includes specialty classes in acting, stage combat, tech theatre, dance and more! Our Academy students benefit from the knowledge and guidance of experienced professionals who have performed and taught in some of the most well-known theatres and film stages around the United States. Our Academy classes continue to focus on developing life skills that can guide students through their journey to college, professional work, and adult life.

Students who are committed to pursuing the performing arts can apply for the Academy Conservatory, a rigorous and comprehensive educational and experiential learning model in which students can earn a two-year or four-year certification in a variety of performing arts disciplines.

Spring 2019 Daytime Classes

Improvisation

This class will provide insight to the fundamentals of improvisation such as the basic tools, rules and philosophy. Interactive opportunities will include games, drills and simple scenes.

Spring 2019 Afternoon Classes

Acting 1

Through building self-awareness and the use of imagination students will learn to be committed and true in their acting experience. Students will invest in monologue selection, preparation and presentation.

Advanced Stage Combat

The advanced stage combat class requires instructor approval. Advanced stage combat teaches rapier and dagger, advanced weapons, flips as well as fight choreography writing. Emphasis will be on safety, control and choreography of all stage combat skills.

Intro to Film and Video

This is an introductory class to understanding the dynamic differences of acting for film. Students will prepare and practice a monologue for the camera and learn to capture the ultimate video audition.

Intro to Musical Theatre Dance

Students will learn the basic fundamentals of Musical Theatre Dance. They will explore the dance etiquette, semantics of the art of dance and what to expect in a dance class. The will learn appropriate technique and skills to carry them further in the art of dance. They will learn different combinations from musical theatre dance productions.

Intro to Stage Combat

This class will teach the different levels of stage combat such as arm to arm combat as well as swords and daggers. Emphasis will be on safety, control and choreography of all stage combat skills.

Intro to Tech Theatre

This class will cover the basic vocabulary of technical theater as well as explore the importance of technical theater in supporting the vision of the director. Lights, sound, stagecraft and house management are just a few topics that will be explored.

Intro to Acting

Students will develop the key skills and vocabulary of acting and performance. Students will learn basic acting techniques and exercises that prepare them to audition for and perform in any production.

Intro to Characterization

Creating a character is the fundamental job of the actor. The actor must embody the physical and vocal qualities that bring the character to life. In addition, the historical time period in which the character’s life is set will influence characterization choices. Seasoned actors can use characterization games to hone their skills, while beginners and students begin to develop characterization skills through simple exercises.

12 weeks – $240

Jazz I

Through the proper use of dance techniques such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will explore different styles of jazz such as Broadway to develop a well-rounded dancer.

Performance Tap

This is a 12 week, faster paced tap class to cover the below skills and have you performance ready!

Rhythm, style and sound are developed through learning the art of tap. Developing proper tap technique and producing clear sounds, will lay the ground work for an exceptional tap experience. Exercise to develop coordination and speed will enhance the ability to tap.

12 weeks – $240
